Event information

How can we live in parallel realities? How can we think in different time frames? How can we expect something to happen out of, seemingly, nothing? And if these are all strange questions: How can we learn to not only adapt in these times of complexity – but actually use complexity thinking to reinvent the way we see the world, organize societies and the self? Steve Vertovec and Georg Diez address all of this and more in their introductory class into complexity and systems thinking. The aim is to be both practical and theoretical and ultimately help the participants to formulate their own positions and to maneuver the unruly landscapes of our shared and shifting realities in the 21st century.

This session: Enhancing the Skills

Decision-making involves reduction—but how can we make decisions in a complex world without oversimplifying reality? We will explore this question through practical examples from media and other narratives, investigating alternative causes, descriptions, and effects of events as they are presented to us.
