Event information

The oceanic feeling appears in Sigmund Freud's work as the state in which the boundaries of the self dissolve. In this workshop, we aim to explore how we can harness this transindividual state for our writing. What do we gain by moving away from the notion of the author as an autonomous individual and assuming that every creative production is a collective act? And moreover, what if we actively want to express the individual's dependency on others, intricate relationships, and polyphony? Together, we will embark on a search for the aesthetics of the collective and discover what happens to our writing when we let others influence it. The only prerequisite: a willingness to experiment with literature.

This workshop takes place over two days. While it is advantageous to attend both sessions, it is not a prerequisite.

Short biography

Jackie Grassmann is an artist and writer based in Berlin. She works with text and language across various media, blending (auto)fictional strategies with theoretical and sociocritical elements. Grassmann engages with the concept of post-genial authorship, which views writing and artistic practice as dialogic engagements within human and non-human relationships. For several years, she has facilitated writing workshops on this theme. Her most recent project is the collective serial novel “Gas - or a Continuous Journey in Ten Derailments.”
