Event information

The climate crisis and ecological devastation are the effect of an economic model that serves the interests of some people only, and that treats everything else as usable resources. It is clear that everything that lives on Earth (as well as that which is not alive) participates in ecosystems. In these, all bodies depend on each other for their existence. Ecological degeneration is a major root of the tangle of crises the world now faces.

Ecological regeneration is essential to keeping the world livable for human and other-than-human life. But within today's cultural, technical, political and financial systems, it is difficult to act according to this realization. The Zoöp model makes the interests of other-than-human life part of an organization's decision-making process. Throught this, Zoöp gives organizations a practical structure with which to shape this action.

Zoöp is short for Zo-operation: co-operation with zoë, Greek for ‘life’. Zoöp is an organizational model for cooperation between humans and other-than-human life that serves the interests of all life.

The zoöp model is the outcome of research by Het Nieuwe Instituut (NL) and is a co-creation of a group of ecologists, philosophers, artists, entrepreneurs and lawyers. The legal structure was developed in close collaboration with the renowned law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.

Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Wietske Nutma will introduce the zoöp model.
